The book includes the history of a long historical period, extending from the late 6th century to the early 19th. This is the history of the Medieval and Modern Worlds, the knowledge of which is necessary to understand how we came to the Modern World. The material of the book is articulated in seven broad sections, which begin with a brief introduction to the main features of the period under consideration. Each section includes sub-chapters, consisting of the following sections: - Historical Narration - A variety of quotes from written sources and views of recent historians - Maps and illustrations - Graphs and tables - Questions, activities and topics for discussion. At the end of the book there is an indicative Greek language bibliography, a chronological table of the Byzantine emperors and a glossary of terms and concepts that could not be interpreted in the context of the narrative. Despite the fact that the long historical period to which it refers is rich in facts and complex historical phenomena, the book does not insist on cognitive details, but seeks to present in a concise and comprehensible way the main points of the subjects it examines.
