The book you are holding in your hands includes the material of Mathematics, as provided by the study program of the Positive and Technological Direction of the 3rd grade of the Unified High School.
This book came from a reformation of the Mathematics book of the 2nd and 4th batch of the 3rd grade of the General Lyceum and consists of two parts.
- The first part, entitled ALGEBRA, consists of two chapters.
-The first chapter is an introduction to Matrix Theory, which among other things is a tool for the study of Geometric Transformations and Linear Systems, which are studied in the same chapter.
-The second chapter introduces Complex Numbers, which are an extension of Real Numbers. Complex Numbers were discovered during the Renaissance in the attempt to solve equations of the third degree. But, in the centuries that followed, they proved to be of great importance for many problems of mathematical science and its applications.
This chapter has been taken from the book of Mathematics for Positive Direction, 2nd grade of a Unified High School by the authors: Adamopoulos L., Viskadurakis B., Gavala D., Polyzou G. and Sverkou A.
-The second part, entitled ANALYSIS, consists of three chapters.
-The first chapter marks a new beginning. It is the passage from finite operations to "infinite processes". The seeds of the concept of limit are certainly present in a very clear and concrete way in the writings of Archimedes. However, the development of this concept took place during the Renaissance and since then it has held a central position in the world of mathematical concepts. [...]
- In the second and third chapters the concepts of the derivative and the integral are presented respectively and these concepts are used in many applications. Derivative and integral are in a sense two different sides of the same coin. In one expression they are the slope of the tangent and the area, in another the speed and the length of the trajectory of a mobile, etc.
