Description

History of the Modern and Contemporary World 6th Grade

Dear children, during last year you got to know the history of the Byzantine Empire, which ended with the fall of Constantinople in 1453. In the approximately 11 centuries that the Byzantines ruled, you learned elements of political life, economy, culture and daily life of the empire5 that began as a Roman and ended as a Greek state. This year we will continue our exciting journey through History with the book "History of the New and Modern World". It is a very important period, which begins with the fall of Constantinople and reaches to the present day. we will mainly be concerned with the history of our homeland, Greek History. but we will also talk about the developments not only in Greece but also in Europe and the whole world. For the period of Greek history, from the Fall to the Revolution of 1821 with which the modern Greek state was created, we will refer to the developments in the historical Greek countries. By this term we mean the areas that make up the Greek peninsula, the islands of the Aegean and Ionian seas, Asia Minor, Pontus, Eastern Thrace as well as Cyprus. These were the areas where Greek civilization always flourished and where Greeks lived. Our goal is to talk to you about people and events, great battles and devastating wars, but also about the peaceful works of people, the culture they created. We believe that in this way we will help you understand that History is ultimately human life itself, with its good and bad moments, and therefore we must treat it with respect. We hope that by completing your school year this year, you will have acquired more historical knowledge but above all critical thinking and love for the past, which are useful for planning the future.
