The game "SeaLiT – Mediterranean Ships and Trade in the Long 19th Century" is an entertaining and educational journey into the world of the maritime history of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea during the 19th century, i.e. from the French Revolution to the First World War, as defined by historian Eric Hobsbawm. In the game players assume the role of ship owners who will have to develop their business, upgrade their ships and adapt their strategies to the changing conditions of the external environment. While playing the game, players will explore the universe of maritime trade, get a feel for its mechanics and historical development, and learn more about:

  • The principal types of sailing and steamships used in maritime trade.
  • The Important Mediterranean and Black Sea Ports in the Nineteenth Century.
  • The important goods traded during this period.
  • The rules of navigation that dictated how ships sailed back in time.
  • The mechanisms of the shipping industry such as demand, rates, insurance, ship repair, etc.
