With this book begins a new effort for the renewal and modernization of high school textbooks. Update both the content and the style, so that the textbook is not just a dry quote of some of the knowledge accumulated by scientists for centuries now.
In a very simple style, an attempt is made to give the fundamental principles of Chemistry and through examples of everyday life, so that they become easier to understand and in addition help the reader-student to develop a critical look at what happens around and within him .
The basic principle followed both in the presentation of the theory and in the choice of exercises and problems is that the student, from the teacher-book duo, must be able to learn and not only be taught, to be able to find and not only they tell him.
Regarding the theory of this book, an attempt was made to be adapted to the mental capabilities of the intended students, ensuring to the greatest extent possible the transformation of scientific knowledge into teaching material.
We tried as much as possible to follow the modern trends in writing textbooks, within the framework of the given syllabus.
To achieve this we relied on:
-in modern bibliography which also includes educational magazines
-in attractive photographic material which to some extent satisfies the term experimental chemistry
- in historical references in order for the student-reader to understand that this wonderful edifice of Chemistry was built by dedicated but "human" people, through mistakes, disagreements, disappointments but also triumphs.
- in a large number of "you know that..." where contemporary issues are mentioned which are of interest to every thinking person. In them, chemistry is "in action" and emerges as "everyday" science. Without these being "examined material" we hope they are "challenging material" for further bibliographic research in libraries and computers...
The selection of exercises and problems was done in such a way that there is an agreement with the students' capabilities and the degree of difficulty is such that it is possible to derive the answer through the theory of this book.
The sufficient number of exercises and problems aims, not to solve all of them in the classroom, but to fully provide a material, so that through the creative cooperation of the teacher and student, the complete assimilation and consolidation of the material to be taught is achieved. The wealth of problems as well as solved applications makes, for the average student, any other aid unnecessary.
