Description

Rhetorical Texts B Lyceum

The textbook Rhetorical Texts of the 2nd Lyceum of Theoretical Direction aims to familiarize students with ancient Greek rhetoric through the work of its important representatives, such as Lysias, Demosthenes and Isocrates. To this end each of the three specific orators is represented in the manual by two of his speeches, which are quoted in their entirety or in fragments. In particular, the following reasons are included:
– Lysius Against Philo of the test and Pro Manditheos,
– Demosthenes For the freedom of Rhodes and for Megalopolis,
– Isocrates On Peace and Areopagitus.

In the manual there are separate informative introductions on ancient Greek rhetoric, on the life and work of each rhetorician and on each work cited. The ancient text of each discourse is accompanied by copious linguistic and hermeneutical comments and questions.
